Since I was young I was always into ‘moving’ whether it be swimming, running or climbing trees. After growing up a bit my passion for fitness, health and movement has developed and I now enjoy a number of sports alongside my training. Climbing is a huge love of mine and I boulder/climb regularly indoors and outdoors as much as possible. Sticking with the mountain theme, skiing is another passion of mine which grew even more whilst working as a chalet chef/ski guide in the French Alps.

 

I started professionally within the health and fitness field by studying for a degree in Sport and Exercise Science. Following this I worked in a gym which gave me a good insight into the industry and the pitfalls of trying to lose weight in a gym (the lack of information-particularly on nutrition, the unnecessary equipment not to mention the time taken to get to the gym). I love running. But it wasn’t always that way. I was the one who skived off PE lessons, who came last in the 800 meters on sports day and who, after leaving school, avoided any form of exercise (other than drunk dancing in sweaty nightclubs) for the next 10 years.

 

Approaching 30 I decided all this needed to change. I wanted to run. I wanted to be the person I saw on TV running down a beach carefree. It looked so easy. I could do that, right? A trip to the gym made me think otherwise. Running was HARD. Everything hurt. Everything felt wrong. I managed just two minutes of running before I had to stop.

 

I kept going back to the gym. Kept finding it hard and kept hating running. But many miles down the line running stopped being something difficult and started being enjoyable.

 

I run a lot. I take my running shoes on holiday with me and, yes, I finally got to be that person running barefoot and carefree down a beach. I run a lot of races, set myself goals and train hard to achieve them. I’ve now run quite a few marathons, the fastest in 3 hours 38 minutes, and an ultramarathon. But I do it all because I love running. Because it’s fun.

I’m now a qualified personal trainer and running coach. I help people run further, get stronger and achieve their goals. Most importantly, I help people enjoy exercise and feel good about themselves.
