Its easy on approach and forgiving on the landing. Especially in the tip/tail. The merc felt really hard to turn and was stiffer overall. The new shape has spoon tech in the nose tail but it seems to mellow out or straight up stop right about where the camber ends. However, for Jimbo and Zobel the 158w is for sure the call. Pipe: Soo much fun in the pipe. With the stance set a little bit back it can be an all mountain directional carver. I would disagree with the 7 out of 10 flex and say it feels a little more on the medium side instead of med/stiff. The Capita basically has a bump between the bindings to help with edge hold while Yes basically has an indent between the bindings to do the same. Uneven Terrain: So the Yes Standard has a much more forgiving way about messy resort snow and it can really turn quick through bumps. We lost the YES Big City but gained an updated version in the 2013 Jones Mountain Twin. So you can generally go with a little bit bigger in boot size than you normally would. They kept the directional volume twin but added a bigger blunt tip/tail that not only looks good but also improves the float a little bit over the smaller nose/tail. Jumps: There is good pop and we found it pretty easy to generate our own air. Set Up: 22.75 Centered 15 front -15 back. Big, stable and sluggish but still a great board for bigger feet. However, I got bored with it after two subsequent trips out west. Turn Initiation: The Mid-Bite Tech grips but also provides a little faster turn initiation for how much surface area is on snow. The rocker in the tip/tail makes it really easy. Super easy to one foot and flat base. Insoles: Footprint Insole Technology Gamechangers, Footprint Insole Technology Gamechangers Lite, If you are driving hard wall to wall and going bigger its all about the Ghost but this is great for most. I constantly spend my time trying to match the right waist width to the right boot size so Id like to see more waist widthsfor such a great board. It would be fine if they had 62 centered inserts per binding but at 52 it minimizes the max stance width too much. Well at least it did a great job for us. Jibbing: Not really a jibber but its doable. Days: 3+ The 2013 Base is one of the fastest bases we came across and if well waxed can glide through almost any extended flat area without issue. Capita's Death Grip and Yes' Mid-bite are essentially polar opposites of one another. A few things to consider here. Our Recommended Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Force, Union Contact, Union Contact Pro, Burton Cartel, Burton Genesis, Burton Mission, Salomon Hologram, Now Pilot, Arbor Cypress. However if you are a strong technical pipe rider you will prefer the extra pop from the standard that will help you boost more. Pant: Burton AK Gore-Tex Pro 3L Hover Pant, Burton AK Gore-Tex 2L Swash Pant, Burton Gore-Tex Ballast Pant Definitely Jones mtn twin. It powers through a hard turn well enough but doesnt have that ultra satisfying mostly camber carve either. On Snow Feel: The personality of the board never changes from powder to ice or from peak to jib park. Uneven Terrain: Its medium flex and somewhat forgiving nature so it can handle bumpy end of the day snow rather well. It tracks super well when one footing off a chair or down a long flat cat track without the fear of catching an edge. Jibbing:This is probably the weakest part of the ride but its not that bad either. It does everything well but nothing memorably well. Powder: Would of loved to see -15mm or even -20mm set back instead of a -10mm set back but its not been tested in powder by us. Riders:James, Jimbo, Matt, Peter and a friend of ours named Ren, Its a different feel and has a little more dynamic/snappy ride than before. TheJones Mountain Twin doesnt stand out in any one category but its got a consistency underfoot in any condition or terrain that makes it pretty fun almost anywhere you go. The 2020 YES Ghost also has set back inserts (Slamback) for powder days so you arent compromising as much as you were in 2019. Speed: Its no bomber but its got enough to handle big, steep wide open groomers and then slow down and butter around when it gets flat. Speed: Good mountain speed and we had no problem with a strong straight line. Works well for Peter too. Now this is just a comparison between my board from last year and my board from this year. Still its easy to butter. Stance 23 in wide 12 -12 centered. It takes a few days of riding in varying conditions to really appreciate. I actually prefered the Yes Optimistic because its a little more forgiving and Im not a standout pipe rider. Approximate Weight: Feels on the light side of normal. If you know how to turn its quick. I'm wondering on swaping for 2020 Yes Standard 153. Pipe: There is good edge hold for hard pipes and it inspires confidence while still being forgiving. Many boards personalities change acording to the conditions but the Jones Mountain Twin does not and thats hard to do in this hybrid world of snowboards.
